Vocal Studio

About me

My family has lived in the Boerne area for sixteen years. I'm married to Andy, and we have four children, three of whom have already graduated from Champion, and one of whom is still enrolled. Not a single one of them are interested in studying vocal music, but I’ve loved teaching their friends!

I earned my BA in vocal music in 1995. Since then, I've done studio work, led worship, directed children’s musicals and coached students preparing for auditions and lead musical roles. I grew up in the theater, and musicals are my love language.

My philosophy

I believe everyone can sing. Some people just need a little encouragement. In lessons, I spend time listening to and diagnosing each student. I start each lesson with a workout designed to warm the voice, correct bad habits, and encourage freedom in singing. Then we work on repertoire. Repertoire is unique to each student. Some students may be preparing for All State auditions. Some need to round out their audition material for local musical auditions. Some are working toward a college audition. And others are just wanting to sing with more skill. I do my best to meet each student where they are. I round out each lesson equipping the student to practice effectively for the week.

I believe confidence plays a huge part in singing, so I do my best to help each student find their strengths and capitalize on them. My favorite teaching times are when students hear themselves make a sound they didn't know they were capable of. I value progress over perfection, and I live for the a-ha moments.

Studio Policies

  • I will do my best to run on time, and I expect students to be on time to lessons.
  • Lessons are $30 for each 30 minute lesson taught at school or $40 for each 45 minute lesson taught in my home. Invoices will be sent at the beginning of each semester, and you’ll set up the payment plan of your choice.
  • Purchase of music is the responsibility of the student. I have a library of books I can pull from, along with a subscription to an online music database. I'm happy to share what I have, but I expect each student to maintain their own copies. I usually send links to music online, and they generally cost no more than $5 per song.
  • Students should bring a notebook, their music and a pencil to each lesson.
  • Missed lessons with no notice will not be refunded. If I'm showing up, I expect the student will, too. If there is an emergency or illness, please text me at 210-854-0614 as soon as possible.
  • Each student is allowed two makeup lessons per semester. Makeup lessons may be scheduled in case of missed lessons due to emergency, illness or scheduling conflicts. Makeup lessons will not be scheduled for "forgotten" lessons. Makeup lessons will be scheduled at a time convenient for both me and the student.
  • I reserve the right to cancel lessons during weeks I need to travel. There will always be advance notice, and I will always make them up at a time convenient for your student.
  • If I have an emergency and have to cancel, I will text you as quickly as I can, and that lesson will be made up as quickly as possible.
